John Craven and Maggie Philbin were the hosts of BBC1 popular science show The Show Me Show, which ran from 1982 to 1985 and sought to answer such arcane questions as “what's the connection between a swan, a leap year, an old penny, horse manure, a spinning top and a high-pitched hand-bell?”. The chirpy theme song was provided by the mysterious ‘T. Smith And The Chips’, and derived from a feature in the show itself about a ‘pop orchestra on a microchip’, as parodied many years later by the BBC2 comedy sketch show Look Around You.
