"Dianne's Place was one of those familiar neighborhood beer and billiard halls. Like many of these places, Dianne's was eventually caught between rising costs and falling business. Determined to keep the place open, owner Dianne Van Eron took a customer's advice and began presenting live music. Over the next six months, the place evolved from a dying local bar into a lively alternative music club. An all-ages venue, Dianne's featured new local bands as well as 'underground' bands from across the U.S. This did not happen without opposition: local police and Fire Marshalls, and the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, all put up stiff resistance. Ironically, Dianne's Place was shut down at the peak of its success when the landlord declined to renew the lease for unspecified "business reasons." The site of Dianne's Place is now occupied by a discount clothing store." (from the back cover)
