Notes
Text on inlay:'Sometime during the fall of 1996, East Village resident Barry Paddock was walking down 2nd Ave. At 12th Street he spotted a pile of cassette tapes left on top of a garbage dumpster. Curious, he decided to sift through the tapes to see if there was anything worthwhile. Most of the tapes were pre-recorded stuff like the Beastie Boys, which he didn’t particularly care for. But one tape he found was a blank tape with a hand-written label that read: ‘Rare J. Buckley Stuff’. Barry saved that tape from the trash bin and took it home.
The tape is approx. 40 minutes and consists of Jeff doing 6 solo acoustic covers. All of the recordings are new to my ears, and two of the songs are extremely rare in that no other performance is known to be recorded. My guess is that these songs were recorded circa 1992 or 1993. Here is the setlist:
01 Parchman Farm (Bukka White)
02 If You See Her Say Hello (Bob Dylan)
03 I Know It’s Over (the Smiths)
04 Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
05 Killing Time (the Creatures)
06 Madame George (Van Morrison)
The first four songs are played on acoustic guitar, Killing Time has guitar drumming and Madame George is played on what sounds like a harmonium.'
The cd-r listed here is a first generation digital copy of the original tape, as traded with a close friend of Barry who digitalized the tape.
Comes in a slim jewel case with transparent tray, with front inlay.
