La Melle Prince was an African-American Country Music artist. Born January 7, 1927 in Kennett, Missouri, it is believed she passed away in Los Angeles in 1991.

La Melle recorded a few tracks for the Los Angeles-based Aladdin label in 1950, resulting in one single, "Get High" b/w "Phone Me Blues". She signed with Decca Records in 1969, and recorded a couple of sides with legendary Producer Owen Bradley at his historic "Bradley's Barn" studio in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. La Melle was accompanied on these recordings by The Jordanaires, as well as Nashville's renowned "A-Team" of studio musicians.

"All Alone In This World (Without You)"
[Vernice McAlpin - Owen Bradley - Betty Wade]

Underappreciated in her time, and virtually unknown today, one listen to these recordings proves that La Melle Prince is one of the most intriguing and distinct artists in music history.

This track was featured on the Grammy Award winning Warner Bros. Records 3-CD Box Set "From Where I Stand: The Black Experience In Country Music."
