Nono composed this azione scenica (stage action) in 2 parts in 1972-74, then definitely revised it in 1975-78. Score requires vocal soloists, small and large chorus, orchestra and magnetic tape. The libretto was made by Nono himself, by compiling several texts by Bertolt Brecht, Tania Bunke, Fidel Castro, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, Georgi Dimitrov, Maksim Gorkij, Antonio Gramsci, Lenin, Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Louise Michel, Cesare Pavese, Arthur Rimbaud, Celia Sanchez and Haydée Santamaria.
