Notes

Japan-for-U.S. CD issue of a 1950 live performance by Bruno Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival, taken directly from the 30-ips master tape (for the first time!) rather than the taped broadcast. The release includes an eight-page booklet with liner notes by Thomas J. Clement, a brief note about the recording, the original German text of "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" as performed in the fourth movement (along with an English translation by William Mann!), and color front and back covers, the former featuring a reproduction of a painting by an unidentified artist.
